The Legend of Oswald Milser End of the 14th century
Seefeld in Tyrol is located on a high plateau between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains. Since Roman times, the road between Innsbruck and Mittenwald has been an important trade route. At the end of the 14th century, a legend surrounding the nobleman Oswald Milser became significant. On Maundy Thursday, this nobleman demanded a communion wafer from the priest during mass. The priest was afraid of the nobleman and gave it to him. However, the man immediately realized his sacrilege and spat the host into a chalice. He himself held on to the altar, and the floor sank half a meter beneath him. The host immediately turned blood red. The hole was then cordoned off with a fence. Overnight, a rose grew in it. The nobleman’s wife picked it and died immediately. The nobleman then gave all his possessions to the church. The host is still kept in the church today. This story contributed to Seefeld becoming an important place of pilgrimage with a large church.
Emperor Maximilian I.1516
Emperor Maximilian I (1459–1519), who spent part of his childhood on the Zirlerberg, founded the monastery in the nearby village in 1516 to accommodate pilgrims and hunting guests. In the 16th century, the Augustinian monks ran the monastery, operated a brewery, fish farm, timber industry, and a hospice.
Tourism End of the 19th century
Tourism began at the end of the 19th century with summer visitors. In 1912, the Karwendelbahn railway, which runs between Innsbruck and Garmisch-Patenkirchen, was opened. Due to the turmoil of war and the poor economic situation, summer tourism only began to grow in the 1920s, and winter tourism was added. The famous Anton Seeloss from Seefeld won several world championships in skiing.
Hotel Hochalm1929
In the 1920s, the Wanner family purchased several plots of land in the village. They opened eight hotels for their eight sons, including the Hotel Wetterstein, Karwendelhof, and, in 1929, the Hotel Hochalm, the predecessor of today’s hotel. This year, the hotel celebrates its 95th anniversary.
New owner - new name 1959
In 1959, the hotel was sold to Herbert Patzenhofer, a sugar manufacturer from Lower Austria. The hotel was expanded, and Mr. Patzenhofer loved the famous Eden Bar in Vienna’s first district, which gave the hotel its name.
The Hotel Eden1963
In 1963, the hotel was sold once again, this time to the current LIST Group. In 2004/2005, it was expanded to include a garden wing, an outdoor pool, and a wellness area.
